Hangin’ Art in Arlee – show and jam

On Friday, March 13th THE GRAVELY MOUNTAIN BOYS will perform a bluegrass concert to benefit the Arlee Community Development Corporation’s Arts & Culture Planning Fund.   The concert will be performed from 7 – 8:30 PM at the Hangin Art Gallery on Highway 93 in Arlee, and will be followed by an open Bluegrass Jam for anyone wanting to join in the fun with the band!   Bring your string instruments and join the picking!  Dinner will be available from 5 – 8 PM.

THE GRAVELY MOUNTAIN BOYS are a traditional bluegrass band based out of Western Montana with roots that go back to the cradle of the genre.   The Gravely’s high lonesome sound is anchored by veteran and leader Dick Darne, more affectionately known as Dr. Gravely.  Born and raised in the hills of Virginia, Dick was a member of several prominent bands during the 60’s and early 70’s around the DC area, a hot bed of roots music at the time.  Other members include Ron Snyder originally from Southeast Pennsylvania and former member of the Missoula based Mountain Poodle Band, Richard Darne of Missoula and Erin Snyder of Arlee. Signature vocal blends along with Richard’s and Erin’s instrumental work on banjo and fiddle comprise their unique sound.

All of the bands sounded great this year. We just keep getting better year after year.

We all headed over to the American Legion and jammed together into the wee hours of Sunday morning. Lots of folks stayed over and camped there. The jamming was great.

Here’s a little snipet of Rebecca in the kitchen that night (for some reason my camera doesn’t seem to pick up the bass, sorry)
