Black Mountain Boys Looking for musicians

The Black Mountain Bluegrass Band is looking for fill in musicians when our main players are out of town or unvailable.  We would like to put together a list of players that would be willing to set in on Tuesdays or other gigs as needed.  Any fiddle, bass, mandolin, banjo, dobro and guitar players would be welcome to get on the list.  We usually know a week or two in advance of the date needed.  Please send your information to Larry Wade  549-7880 or email: wade2005@montanascabbards.com or Jack Piippo 499-0360 or email: piippo@blackfoot.net.

Gibbonsville Sept 11-13

Hey all you bluegrass fans,

Looking forward to seeing each and everyone of you this weekend at the Broken Arrow!  Should be a blast and the weather should be perfect.  Remember the Ice Cream Social at 1pm on Saturday, and the potlucks Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Bring whatever you need to have a great weekend, and of course any wall tents are certainly appreciated.  It’s sure to be a dandy of a weekend…….

Get here safely and see you soon – -  Arlene

p.s. – please pass this on to more folks!

Sorrrento Bluegrass Workshop

I made my annual 700 mile trek up to Sorrento, B.C. a couple weeks ago for their weeklong Bluegrass Workshop. This year marked the 20th year they’ve held the camp. It was great as usual…..lots of picking late into the night. I didn’t get a lot of sleep, but I have the rest of the year to catch up!

I took the advanced rythym guitar class this year taught by Chris Stevens. It was great…..if you’ve never met Chris there is no describing the guy….he kept us enterained, so say the least. Brian and Caroline were there again, of course, and brought along a friend of theirs from Bozeman (his name escapes me), but he’s a fine bluegrass singer.

We had a good size fire up on the mountain just south of us that kept things interesting. It got a little smokey at times, but not bad.

There were around 250 musicians (students) there for the week. You can’t get through the gate if you are not taking a class, so as you can imagaine with 250 pickers around the jamming was pretty much nonstop.

This has become an annual event for me. It’s well worth the long drive….if it wasn’t I wouldn’t go back every year. It’s a solid week of bluegrass….no phone, no tv, no work, no newspapers…….nothing but good old mountain music. Does it get any better than that? 🙂

Here’s a little clip on youtube of a group we threw together for the student concert.

Festivals-Festivals-Festivals!

Don’t forget folks – the Bannock County Bluegrass Festival is this weekend, August 28, 29 and 30. There will be ten great bands and lots of jammin’.

Then next weekend, September 4, 5 and 6th, the Idaho Sawtooth Bluegrass Association hosts it’s annual Fall Festival. This will take place at the Mountainview RV park in Donnelly, Idaho, so hitch up those trailers, and get there!

You won’t want to go into winter without a little Bluegrass overload, and so be sure to attend the Gibbonsville jam and camp the weekend after Donnelly. (September 11, 12 and 13)
