Dinner:  MRBA will supply the Entree (Famous Dave’s barbeque) – sides will be potluck
Location: Ruby’s Inn & Convention Center, 4825 North Reserve, Missoula, MT
Time: 2pm to midnight or later

We’ll kick off the meeting at 2pm followed by shake and howdies and picking the bluegrass music until dinner at 6:00pm. After dinner we will pick into the wee hours of Sunday morning. As in years past we will have several different rooms available to have jams of all levels of players. Ruby’s Inn is offering their normal Bluegrass Rate for those who want to stayover on Saturday Night.

Please come and join in the meeting and see how you can help to keep this a great group.  This is where we elect officers.  Ben Essary will be stepping down as Sec/Treasurer and we need someone to fill this position.  This is an important and fun role in the association involves taking membership dues and updating the membership list.  It’s a great way to get to know others in the association.  It takes about 4 hrs/month of your time.

If you have any suggestions for agenda items please email mrba@mtbluegrass.com.

Zoo Grass review

Check out the live interview Alanya’s report at Citizen Journalism about Zoo Grass and Missoula bluegrass.

By ALANYA CHERKIS

Last month, Missoula hosted its first ZooGrass festival at the Top Hat lounge downtown.

The event on Saturday, Sept. 24, featured a potluck, a family-friendly environment, an open-pickin’ circle, and, mainly, hours of live music.

Live bluegrass has recently taken hold of the music scene in Missoula, with its upbeat energy, foot-stompin’ beats, and a stage full of strings. But what is it about this genre that has become such a large part of the Garden City’s nightlife?

In this audio feature, Jed Nussbaum of stompgrass phenomenon Dodgy Mountain Men, folk singer-songwriter Britt Arnesen, and event organizer Skye Berns discuss the allure of bluegrass in Zootown.
