SAM BUSH!! at River City Roots Fest in Missoula MT

Sam Bush, a well-known mandolin player, will headline this year’s River City Roots Festival in downtown Missoula. The annual music, arts and culture festival is set for Aug. 23-24.

Bush won the 2009 Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award, is known as a founding member of Newgrass Revival, and is considered the originator of “Newgrass” music. His most recent album “Circles Around Me” was No. 3 on the U.S. bluegrass charts.

Bush will play from 8:30-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, on the Main Street main stage. The rest of the 2014 line-up will be announced at a later date.

Roots Fest is an admission-free festival that drew more than 15,000 people last year. The two-day event also features a juried art show, a four-mile competitive and fun run, a family fun festival in Caras Park, and a 15-vendor food court on Ryman Street. The 2014 event will also include a stand-up paddle board competition to be held on the Clark Fork River.

MRBA ANNUAL CAMP OUT    August 1-3, 2014
The annual MRBA camp out will be held at Forrest Flats Highway 10 East between Turah and Clinton, about three miles East of Turah and three miles west of Clinton. There will be signs.

Dry camping Fri. Sat. and Sun, August 1st-3rd. You should come a day earlier, if you can, to join other early pickers plus grab a good camping spot.  Breakfast pot luck on Saturday and Sunday, Saturday nite the Association will provide the meat and desert.  We ask members to bring pot luck dishes to finish the meal.

There will be a $10.00 charge for non members or unpaid members for Saturday nite, should be a no brainer when dues are $10.00 each or $15.00 for family.  Family = two adults and minor children. You need to sign up in advance for Saturday meal.

All levels and styles of acoustic players are welcome.  This jam has been on-going for several years and has a healthy attendance by a bunch of great folks.  Thanks to Matthew Nord of Tangled Tones Music Studio for providing a bluegrass friendly location for this weekly jam.

Just a reminder . . .
IMG_0786BLUEGRASS PICKING CIRCLE AT THE LOFT…Friday, April 18, 8:00 p.m.
At least 3 spaces for jamming.
In the front area of the Loft we will set up a sound system so that the pickers can really entertain the grinners and we will have a sign up sheet for a few bands to play short sets of a few tunes between 9:00ish and 10:30ish with open jamming before and after.

The Wine Cave and the Conference Room (as well as the back porch weather permitting) will be available for other jams.
No suggested donation. BYOB and food to share if desired.

Acoustic stringed instruments only please

Free parking after 5pm in the parking garage across the street.
Be aware that The Loft of Missoula is on the second floor of the buidling in the picture, that it is accessed by long stairways at both the front and rear of the building, and that it is not handicapped accessible.  That said, if the stairs pose a challenge but you really want to attend, we can probably round some big strong fellers up to help you and and down the stairs.

Spring is here, which means it’s concert season in Missoula, and this year some of the biggest names in bluegrass are coming to town.

The 2014 Ruby Jewel Jamboree will feature a series of concerts at Ruby’s Inn in Missoula, bringing in top-tier bluegrass talent like the Kathy Kallick Band, Junior Sisk, Bradford Lee Folk and others.

The Ruby Jewel Jamboree was started in 2010 and named after Ruby Erck, whose family owns a group of hotels in Montana. The bluegrass tour is the pet project of Ruby’s daughter Phyllis Erck, who is also the president of the Montana Rockies Bluegrass Association.

Jamboree producer Kimberlee Carlson said Phyllis is on a mission to bring the popularity of bluegrass in the eastern United States to the West. The tour was established with the goal of bringing big-name bluegrass artists as well as up-and-comers to Montana and give local talent a place to showcase their work.  read more…

50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act – A Missoula Celebration!!

We are looking for a Montana bluegrass band to play for the afternoon. We have some money for a band but would greatly appreciate any discounts.

We are still working out exact times. We will advertise your participation through web, radio, and print outlets.

Same routine.  Start at 2pm jam until midnight or so with a break for potluck dinner at 6pm.
